Thanks for hosting Ray and congrats to the mafia! It’s been a long time coming, but the townie streak has finally ended.
Here’s how the mafia planning and plotting went down in a nut shell. This is a very brief synopsis (I had over 90 PMs relating to this mafia round by game end), but it should give any curious townies insight into why we did what we did.
Night 1. We wanted muzzz since he was usually a good player but therefore a good early save target, we decided to hit someone less expected, but also someone that had the potential for greatness. Enter Naz.
We also viewed w_m as an early threat since she always targets me for something (look at her sig) AND she had the potential to have a better read on goltar than most. Her NK would implicate goltar because of that, so the first day was planned for me to bring her down with a Day 1 lynch train.
This would accomplish 3 main objectives:
-Nip a potential threat in the bud.
-Set me up as the “inept shepherd” and give Sint a chance to work his magic with his similar play style later in the game.
-Make me seem more suspicious for leading the lynch train so I would get the early investigation from the cop. My role as the godfather made me appear as a townie if investigated.
After the second night, we were more confident to take out Muzzz and did so. When he was found to be the cop, grand plans of fake roleclaims came forward. We were originally planning to off Merlin during a day lynch (even as one of our own) just to set up Sint to be trusted, but decided to can that in favor of the fake claims. Nac Runo would have been able to claim “gunsmith” with false hints he had dropped, nolecub would have been able to claim “insomniac” with his false hints, and goltar wasn’t a far cry away from being able to spin the situation for his own cop claim. Obviously not all of them would have stepped forward, but we had set up the basics for claiming just to be prepared.
Day broke and Jason ruined everything. Sint and Nac Runo saw his hidden text and voted accordingly under the assumption that others saw it as well. Merlin tragically died after all. During the night the group was pretty mixed on how to handle the situation, but we had to chance the doctor not seeing the message and decided to attempt to kill Jason.
We just didn’t believe that only mafia could have seen Jason’s messages (especially with skiffz getting personally thanked by him), so we decided to have Sint and Nac come out with what they had seen. In retrospect, no townies saw the messages so they could have claimed. BUT. If anyone would have done a reread and spotted it, Sint and Nac would have had to been killed immediately for not bringing it up. Since they were the more trusted of our mafia group, that was something that we didn’t want. So, they brought it forward and got the ball rolling on Nolecub (one of our own! wtf) just as I saw another potential threat on the horizon. My brother could tell there was something up with me (but now I had no cop to come forward to clear me), so I had to attack him from the get-go since the town generally believes whoever comes forward first. This also served to make him appear retaliatory instead of standing on his own theories. I also milked the situation for more than it was worth, trying to pull out all the stops to save Nolecub. Goltar was ready and waiting in the wings to berate Waspinator if it looked like he wouldn’t be lynched, but it wasn’t necessary in the end. Wasp floundered around looking desperate enough that he appeared mafia to most. I knew he would turn up clean and that a second wrong lynch would mean bad news for me so I tried to coddle up to jrlafrance in the hopes that he would defend me. More on that later. The day finally ended with Wasp getting what was coming to him and Nolecub getting off the hook (by bassano no less, someone that we could use later on). My role had changed from the Day 1 “inept shepherd” that made for a good investigation target, to the “dark shepherd” with two wrong lynch candidates under his belt, that made for a good lynching target. I looked even worse in terms of suspicion, but without Sint and goltar on my case, the chances of my own lynch was probably smaller than it should have been.
We chose to kill zefimas during the night for a safe bet. There was still the small chance that jrlafrance would save Sint, goltar, or skiffz instead of himself, so we basically wanted to target anyone but jrlafrance and skiffz. It actually didn’t matter who we targeted or even that if they died. Even at 7:5, the town would still be screwed with a townie lynch as long as we hit someone during the next night.
The final day was a bit sketchy at the beginning, but by day end most of the town seemed pretty content with bassano as a lynch target. Every one of the mafia members was going to be around at day end if that wouldn’t have happened and we would have voted as a block for someone else if the town had split its votes among multiple candidates.
jrlafrance- I hadn’t actually picked out any of the hints that you were the doctor right away. It was only after Nac Runo and others of the mafia squad pointed it out via PMs, did I see an angle I could run with. Since I looked so suspicious anyway, I thought I’d try to coddle up to you for your protection as the one person that couldn’t be counterclaimed. You didn’t really buy it as I’d hoped. I had hinted enough that I knew your role and basically outed you into protecting yourself that night. You did, didn’t you? Because I figured you would, we as the mafia could NK you the following night without much fear. There would have been a 95% chance we would have targeted you and a .001% chance we would have targeted Bob. During the day, you were much more skeptical than I had wanted, but enough people seemed to see me as on the level, that I wasn’t too worried about my own lynch. Still, I didn’t want you throwing a huge effort into killing me which was why I kept my word and voted myself in line with you at the beginning of the day. In hindsight, it does look pretty mafia-esque though.
Bob- I’m sure I’ll be back on your permanent suspicious list after this game…and just after I had gotten off too. If it’s any consolation, you did indeed call the trifecta.
Bassano- Sorry we had to use you as the scapegoat on the final day, but you were one of the ones that was suspected enough by most and wouldn’t put up a huge fight kicking and screaming foul play the whole way.
Ricestoni- It sucks when no one believes you, eh? You caught goltar and somehow linked me to him. I was really hoping it would have been you that got lynched instead of bassano if only to add insult to injury. Seriously though, good spot even if Nac and Sint were on your 100% kosher list. (Also, that screenshot you posted featured a lone PM in your box which marked you as a plain townie, but no one really seemed to pick up on it.)
Waspinator- Glad to have you playing and there’s no hard feeling at lynching you like the little girl you are, right? All kidding aside, your suspect list was pretty decent and I thought you played a good 1st game considering. Kudos.
Jason- Tough break. You had a grand suspicious list and a knack for great night targets (though if only you hadn’t pegged Merlin and we hadn’t killed muzzz, you’d probably be certain he was anti-town). The hidden messages were a nice touch, but I’m sure your death left you shouting at the computer monitor at times.
Nolecub, Nac Runo, Sint, goltar and Merlin- A pleasure working with you all.
