Well, after your medal count at the olympics, you can't blame them for trying to figure out your secrets, w_m.

It wasn't my medal count, it was Elizabeth's, they were trying to make sure she was really 16 (months that is)

She's not much younger than some of those Chinese gymnasts, IMHO.

I'm near Birmingham (British one), she's in Austin, Texas. So, it's a bit of a trek... somewhere in the region of 5000 miles each way. About the same price. I'm lucky to get two weeks off work so I can make this worthwhile.

For a trek that far it's good you got a decent amount of time to spend with her. But Two weeks off? That's so not fair. My dad gets one week at 4th of July and 1 week at Christmas. They have to fly out on Christmas day becuase he has to work Christmas Eve.

I work in the games industry - we do a load of overtime around crunch time, just before the game comes out, but if we fancy a break we can choose to get paid for all the overtime in holiday.

.... like I said, so not fair. My dad is saleried, he doesn't get over time when he's putting in 80 a week before a show. But after workign for the same company for 20 years he does get his birthday off paid!
Games as in video games? Have you had a hand in any I might have heard of?

Video games For specific games... maybe, depends how much attention you've been paying. Nothing really huge like WoW. I try to avoid giving out too much personally identifible stuff on places that are Googlable, so you'll have to excuse me not being super specific... I'm a tester - I go through the game for ~6 months before release, reporting everything that goes wrong. It's not as much fun as you might think, although it has its moments - we don't really play the games so much as go through them with a fine-tooth comb, reporting everything that's gone wrong. After 6 months on one title, you can be really sick of doing the same parts over and over, especially if the game is a small one. As an upside, you get very good at the game you are testing. We also spend quite a lot of time doing things like re-checking bugs that the programmers say they have fixed, to make sure the fix hasn't broken something else. So, go to place X, check that object Y is no longer levitating, and find that while it is now attached to the ground, it has also turned green for some reason. There's a huge database of these problems, ranging from typos in the subtitles to 'game crashes and takes the player's Xbox Live profile with it', and each one needs checking by someone. I've certainly done worse jobs than this one

I've been on beta testing often enough to not envy alpha testers. Enjoy your vaction and take her out to a nice dinner at least once.
