This a quick version from my Grandmother's recipie books. It's a great recipie that fills the air with fall scents. Perfect for beggining bakers.
1 lb prepared apples* Juice from 1/2 lemon 1 C brown sugar 1 C flour 1/4 C butter (1/2 stick), softened 1 tsp. cinnamon or baking spice Dash of salt
Preheat the oven to 375. Butter a 8 or 9 inch square pan. Add apples and squeeze lemon over the top, you can adda dash of salt if the apples are tart (like granny smith).
In a small mixing bowl stir together the brown sugar, spices, and flour. Mix in the butter until mealy.
Pour the flour mixture on top of the apples and press over the top to cover. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is lightly browned. Serve warm or ala mode to suit your tastes.
*You can use canned apples but drain the syrup. Other wise core, peel (if desired), and slice about 6 med-large apples.
