The problem I see with the town gossip is that it's just too easy to role claim if they can send to another player directly. Esp since you're using the standard mafia rules. The only way the effectiveness of gossiping under your on log in is dimished is if ANYbody can PM ANYone outside of the thread, thus opening the door to a fake claim. Otherwise they could in effect tell a different person the gossip every night, thereby confiming their townie status to several individuals.

I realise that. The point is, they are risking revealing their townie status to the mafia, who no doubt would appreciate the information and act accordingly.

by what trying to make the town trust them on the basis that the gossip (who has little or no credibility with regaurds to their information) trusts them?

I don't like the gossip role myself, puts too much control of the direction of the game in the hands of the mod (no offense Jason).

No offense taken. The reason I'm putting these roles out there is to garner feedback from other experienced mafia players who no doubt will be better able to spot flaws in my setup than I am myself.

I guess I better officially sign up since I’m already on the player roster.

One-Eyed Joe, Clairvoyant and Assassin all seem like really neat roles.

The Nosy Kid has to do with probability (any role that is influenced by something other than the human equation needs rethought) and therefore should be tweaked imo. I also don’t like the Town Gossip and The Don looks too powerful in anything but a huge game. (Two potential replacements would be pretty epic I’d think.)

Just throwing this out there, but there needs to be a vengeful role of some kind. So that if that role get lynched or NK’ed, they get to take someone out with them (if only to dissuade people from immediately gutting me).

I had intended putting a vengeful role in. I'm also tossing up giving someone resurrection powers. Means we can have a larger mafia group.

for a story line there is the presidental pardon in there if we're just jailing not lynching. But how are you going to work in resurection for mob hits, poisioned, or actual lynches? A ghost whisper?
