Glad to be back! Too bad the poor hubby has to travel for a few days for work At least it's some place he can see a few of his old college buddies.

Oh dear! the local paper is having a cookie contest and I don't know which ones to make!!! Plus we have an appraiser coming Friday and I'm so busy cleanign I won't be able to make the cookies until Thanksgiving week so i can't make some of the best ones that take several days to do.

An appraiser for what? And why do you have to clean for her/him?

our house. We're trying to re-fi with falling home values. So all the stuff I've been putting off since "baby's don't keep" I have to do in a whirlwind, plus extra stuff to make the place look more spacious and inviting.
I swear we have the WORST timing, we bought the house towards the end of the housing boom with an adjustable rate mortgage (had to to be able to afford a house out here) and now that it's adjusting the house value has dropped.

I bought my house in a neighborhood that then went to hell. Jude

Ugg, that started to happen to hte nighborhood my grandpa lived in. A bunch of the older foks who'd lived there for 20-30 years either moved into a home or died. and questionables moved in. But then the cops closed the crack house and several of the older folks who did live there talked younger realtives to move in. So when we went to sell his house after he passed away, the grandkids of the nighbors accross the street bought his house.

But then the cops closed the crack house and several of the older folks who did live there talked younger realtives to move in. So when we went to sell his house after he passed away, the grandkids of the nighbors accross the street bought his house. Yeah, there were a lot of old people when I moved in. But often the families that moved in later were/are inconsiderate creeps. They let their dogs bark all day (and night sometimes) and sh*t in other people's yards, the kids play in the street and scream all day and run through and sometimes vandalize people's property. If you tell them to keep quiet or stay off your property, they swear at you (you wouldn't believe the language of even 7-year olds) and threaten you, and the parents, if you try to talk with them, do the same. And some of the "decent people" who lived here before started letting their kids act just like the newer ones. Other people have moved away because they can't stand the neighborhood anymore. The cops don't enforce the ordinances, and didn't even do anything when my old neighbor called them because a bunch of teenage boys were having a beer party in his back yard. I hate this place... And the drug dealer with the 2 vicious dogs that bark all night and try to bite people passing by...he lives right next to the ex-cop that was running for office and always has his cop buddies visiting... Joy.
That's one reason I'm actully GLAD we have an HOA. The cop next door still lets his kids play loud music and scream and his dog bark like mad, but he gets fined for it when he does and they don't do it for another 6 months or so. Thank you for reminding me it could be worse (and that my overly high dues are worth it.)

Barkeep, I need a cold one! Make it a Gatorade on the rocks, we've been painting the outside of the house (in a heat wave none the less) and it's STILL not done.

We've been getting a lot of lightning storms. My internet router got blown out. Verizon FIOS tech support helped me connect directly to their line, but that means that I can only have one computer hooked to the internet, and Capybara has been monopolizing it. I order a new one, which I hope will be easy to set up...and will work...
Also, I need work done on my tin roofs of my front and back porch and my box gutters. They are all leaking, and that's bad because the back porch is actually built in and I have a lot of stuff stored there. With my bad knee, I can't do it myself, and I can't really afford to have it done...

I know how that goes, but take the time/money to get it done!
The hubby's uncle is missing one of his legs from just below the knee down so when Katrina went through all he could do was put a tarp over the roof damage (not much they were on the edge of it). He figured it'd be fine 'till he could get some buddies over to help out, but then Rita hit them with rain and the entire house got black mold, he had to abondon it and build a mini house next to the old one. It's about 20ft x 20 ft and 2 whole rooms. (bed and bath) We came down to visit and tried to help save pictures and other stuff from when my husband lived there as a kid, in the basement there was a pile on the floor and I was like "what is that?" It had been a matress, the damp had dinsenegrated it.

I know. Water does more damage than anything, it seems, or at least it finishes off whatever fires, tornadoes, etc. don't. Just don't have any money right now. Too many doctor and utility bills.

yeah, for some reason I thought money was supposed to get better as you got a bit older and got raises, but the cost of living is going up too fast these days.
Hmm, do you have any other place you could store your stuff for now? that'd at least help.
